Last week we started the advice series, here‘s the first instalment.
We now continue the series with more lessons learned and business experience gained on our way to launch.
Let Us Begin
Entrepreneurs trying to start up and business owners alike, you are bound to have setbacks, catastrophic failures or in more common but extreme situations, the business shuts down. If any of the following scenarios occur, do not worry, all is not lost; it does not mean it was a complete waste of time, effort and money. Entrepreneurs, especially the young and ambitious, must learn from each setback.
You should ask yourself, what did I learn from this event?
Make sure you analyse all events that happened during the course of the venture’s tenure, from the highs to the lows. If you believe the setback was nothing major and can be rectified easily, you must still be willing to analyse the process of making that mistake, understand the error and grow from it.
Try to grasp where you went wrong, did you move to quickly or slowly, did you rest on your laurels? These are the conscious thought-processes/questions you should be having after a setback. However, DO NOT DWELL!
The ability to learn from failure and bounce back with authority is what sets alight the entrepreneurial scene and what separates the Men from the Boys or in the case of the females, the Women from the girls.
‘’If you do not learn from history, you are doomed to repeat it’’ – This is a saying taught by a majority of historians – entrepreneurs take heed.
Most importantly, do not, and I stress, do not blame other people for the venture’s failure or any other type of setback, why?
As an entrepreneur you will lose all power and ability to learn from this mistake, your mind has been polluted, it has made it’s decision therefore the mind now believes it was employee or investor (x)’s fault for the company’s failure.
On the contrary, if you are starting up a business you must be determined to make it work no matter the difficulties or obstacles on your path. When your house, car or anything of value is on the line, you cannot afford to lick your wounds for lengthy periods. You must be able to learn on the job and learn fast.
